Odyssey's AI-designed face insert meets one of the most classic blade shapes in putting -- delivering smarter distance control in a familiar package.

The Big Picture

The Odyssey Ai-One #2 is the kind of putter that does not need to shout about what it is. It takes the classic Newport 2-style blade shape -- squared-off toe, clean lines, understated profile -- and pairs it with Odyssey's AI-designed face insert technology. The premise is straightforward: even good putters miss the center of the face, and when they do, ball speed drops, distance becomes inconsistent, and three-putts creep in. Odyssey used artificial intelligence to design contours on the aluminum backing of the insert that normalize ball speed across the face, claiming putts finish up to 21 percent closer to the hole compared to a standard putter.

This is the second wave of the Ai-One family, joining head shapes like the Rossie, #7, Double Wide, and Jailbird Mini. Odyssey's dominance in the putter market is well-documented -- they lead in tour usage, tour wins, and consumer sales -- and the Ai-One line has only strengthened that position. Jon Rahm put an Ai-One Rossie in the bag at the 2023 Ryder Cup and never looked back. Sam Burns was one of the first PGA Tour players to test the insert technology.

For golfers who prefer a traditional blade look and want the feel of the legendary White Hot insert but with improved distance consistency, the Ai-One #2 is the logical choice. It arrives in Odyssey's navy blue PVD finish and retails in the $299 range.

At Address

The #2 is a blade putter, and it looks like one. The squared-off profile is immediately recognizable to anyone who has gamed a Newport 2 or similar heel-toe weighted blade. There is nothing gimmicky about the shaping -- it is clean, compact, and confidence-inspiring if you prefer looking down at something traditional.

The alignment aid on the top is minimal compared to the mallets in the Ai-One family. You get a single sight line on the flange, which is enough for golfers who use a line on their ball for alignment but may feel sparse for those who rely heavily on the putter itself for aiming. The navy blue PVD finish is sleek, with no glare issues at address. A small Panlite window on the sole reveals the AI-designed topology on the back of the insert -- a visual conversation piece that also serves to remind you there is genuine engineering behind the face.

Interchangeable sole weights in 5, 10, 15, and 20 gram options allow you to dial in head weight to your preference, which is a thoughtful inclusion. The SL 90 shaft -- a lightweight 90-gram all-steel design with 20-30 grams of counterbalance weight in the butt end -- replaces the two-piece graphite-steel Stroke Lab shaft from previous generations. It feels stable without being cumbersome.

Sound & Feel

The Ai-One insert co-molds a White Hot urethane striking surface onto an aluminum backer, and the result feels very close to the classic White Hot putters that built Odyssey's reputation. If anything, the Ai-One insert is a hair firmer than a pure White Hot OG, likely due to the thinner urethane layer and the aluminum backing underneath. But the difference is subtle enough that most golfers would not notice it without a side-by-side comparison.

The feel is soft without being mushy. Center strikes produce a satisfying, quiet impact that transmits enough information through your hands to confirm a good hit. Off-center strikes are slightly muted -- the insert absorbs some of the vibrational feedback you would get with a milled-face blade -- which means you do not always get a sharp distinction between a perfect strike and a slight miss. That is a trade-off of any insert putter: you gain forgiveness but sacrifice some of the granular feedback that milled-face purists prefer.

Sound is subdued and pleasant. There is none of the hollow click you sometimes get with cheaper insert putters. It sounds and feels like a quality instrument.

Performance

Ball Speed & Distance

This is where the Ai-One technology makes its case. The AI-designed contours on the aluminum backing of the insert are engineered to speed up off-center strikes and slightly moderate center strikes, creating a larger effective sweet spot. In practice, the consistency is noticeable. Putts hit slightly toward the heel or toe roll out to nearly the same distance as center strikes, which is not something you can say about most blade putters.

Over the course of a round, that consistency compounds. Fewer three-putts from lag distance, fewer come-up-short misses from 25-30 feet, and more confidence that your first putt will at least be in tap-in range. For golfers who three-putt more than twice per round, the Ai-One insert addresses a real problem.

Dispersion & Shot Shape

The #2 is a blade, and blades are inherently less forgiving on off-center hits than mallets. That is a physics reality that no insert technology can fully overcome. On toe and heel misses, the head still twists more than a high-MOI mallet would, and putts can drift off-line. The Ai-One insert helps with distance consistency on those mishits, but it does not magically prevent the face from opening or closing.

The interchangeable weights do provide some flexibility to fine-tune stability and swing weight, which can help match the putter to your stroke tempo and green speed preferences. Heavier weights generally improve stability and suit slower-tempo strokes, while lighter weights can help on faster greens.

Verdict

The Odyssey Ai-One #2 is a well-executed blade putter that brings meaningful distance consistency technology to a classic head shape. The AI-designed insert genuinely normalizes ball speed across the face, and the White Hot urethane feel is everything Odyssey loyalists expect. The navy blue PVD finish is sharp, the interchangeable weights add useful customization, and the overall build quality is excellent.

Strengths: proven distance consistency from the Ai-One insert, familiar White Hot feel, classic blade aesthetics, interchangeable weights for fine-tuning, and a premium finish that resists wear.

Weaknesses: as a blade, it offers less forgiveness on off-center hits than mallets or MOI designs in the same family. The alignment aid is minimal -- golfers who want more visual guidance should look at the Jailbird or #7 models. And the muted mishit feedback may frustrate players who want to know exactly where they struck each putt.

This putter is ideal for traditional blade players who want to improve their distance control without changing their visual preference at address. If you love the look of a classic blade but your three-putt numbers are higher than you would like, the Ai-One #2 deserves a roll on the practice green.
