The iconic blade gets a modern refresh -- and it was worth the wait.

The Big Picture

The Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 is the latest evolution of what might be the most recognizable putter shape in golf. Tiger Woods won 14 of his 15 majors with a Newport 2 by Cameron. That lineage carries weight, and the Studio Style version does its best to honor it while pushing the design forward.

Precision-milled in the United States from 303 stainless steel, this putter introduces a new Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) face insert paired with chain-link face milling technology. The slightly thicker topline compared to previous Newport 2 iterations is a deliberate nod to what tour players have been requesting for years -- a bit more visual mass at address that inspires confidence without losing the clean, minimal aesthetic that defines the Newport 2.

Customizable tungsten sole weights allow you to dial in stability, balance, and MOI to match your stroke. The I-beam plumbing neck provides that classic look with medium toe flow. This is a putter built for players who value precision, craftsmanship, and a tour-proven shape.

At Address

Setting up behind the ball, the Newport 2 looks exactly like it should -- clean, purposeful, and understated. The squared-off features on the toe and heel give it that unmistakable Newport 2 silhouette. The slightly deeper face and wider topline compared to older models adds a subtle sense of substance without making it look chunky.

The leading edge sits crisp and square, which is how many tour professionals prefer to align their putts. The back edge acts as a secondary face angle reference, and the minimal sight line on the flange is there if you want it without demanding your attention. The overall effect is a putter that almost aligns itself -- the outside lines draw your eyes naturally to the leading edge.

The satin finish eliminates glare effectively, and the return of the red cherry dots on the sole is a nice aesthetic touch that Cameron fans will appreciate. There is nothing flashy here. Just clean lines and confident geometry.

Sound & Feel

This is where the Studio Style Newport 2 makes its strongest case. The SCS face insert combined with the chain-link milling pattern produces a feel that is soft but solid -- two words that do not usually coexist well in putter design, but Cameron has threaded that needle here. On center strikes, the feedback is immediate and satisfying. You know exactly where on the face you made contact.

The stepless shaft contributes to a clean feel at impact, eliminating any vibration steps that might muddy the feedback. Compared to previous Newport 2 models with steel face inserts, this version is noticeably softer without sacrificing responsiveness. On a 10-footer with a Pro V1, the sound is a muted click rather than a sharp tap -- refined and controlled. Mishits feel distinctly different, which is exactly what you want from a player's putter.

Performance

Roll & Distance Control

The chain-link face milling is doing real work here. The ball gets into a forward roll quickly with minimal skid, even on putts where I did not quite catch the center. On lag putts from 30 to 40 feet, distance control felt intuitive -- the combination of the milled face and the head weight made it easy to calibrate speed after just a few practice strokes.

The tungsten sole weights are a meaningful feature, not just a checkbox. Swapping to heavier weights noticeably changed the swing feel and improved my tempo on mid-range putts. If you tend to get quick with the putter, going slightly heavier can be a simple and effective fix.

Forgiveness

Let me be honest: this is a blade putter, and blades are not forgiving. The Newport 2 has an improved high-toe profile that helps eliminate the tendency to raise the toe at address, which can cause you to aim left of target. The heel and toe circular sole weights increase stability by reducing head rotation on off-center impacts, effectively widening the sweet spot relative to a non-weighted blade. But if you consistently miss the center by significant margins, a mallet is going to serve you better.

Where the Newport 2 excels is on the slight mishits -- the ones where you are a few millimeters off-center. Those putts still track reasonably well and hold their speed. It is the gross mishits that will punish you.

Verdict

The Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 is a genuinely excellent blade putter. The SCS face insert and chain-link milling deliver a feel that is among the best in the blade category. The build quality is flawless, and the slightly updated profile makes a good shape even better. Customizable sole weights add a practical element that goes beyond aesthetics.

The weakness is the same one that plagues every blade: limited forgiveness. And the price positions it firmly in premium territory against competitors like the Ping PLD, Bettinardi, and Odyssey Toulon that offer comparable performance at various price points.

If you are a feel-oriented putter with a consistent stroke who wants the best version of the most iconic blade in golf, this is it. If you need your putter to bail you out on mishits, look elsewhere.
