A streetwear pant that plays golf — not a golf pant that plays streetwear. Know the difference before you buy.

The Big Picture

The Malbon Golf Lodge Nylon Pant is a lifestyle product that happens to be sold by a golf brand. That's not a criticism — it's a necessary distinction. Where the FootJoy Tour Fit and Greyson Montauk are performance golf trousers designed to double as casual wear, the Lodge Nylon Pant is a streetwear-influenced nylon jogger designed to be worn on the golf course among other places. The priorities are inverted, and understanding that inversion is essential to evaluating what you're actually buying at $145.

The Lodge is part of Malbon's Fall/Winter 2023 "Range Tested" collection. It's constructed from a nylon poly woven fabric with polyester mesh pocket lining, features an elastic waistband with drawcord, hidden zippered pockets throughout, adjustable elastic cord hems, and contrast inner thigh/leg panels with the Malbon Range Tested logo embroidered down the right leg. Available in four colorways (Aged Black, Coffee, Navy, Olive) in alpha sizing only: S, M, L, XL.

What the Lodge does not list: stretch percentage, moisture-wicking properties, UV protection, antimicrobial treatment, or any of the technical performance specs that golfers expect at this price point. Three Putt Golf's broader review of the Malbon brand rated it 6.9/10 overall, describing the line as "more lifestyle than tour-ready." The Lodge exemplifies that assessment.

First Impressions & Looks

The Lodge Nylon Pant looks nothing like a traditional golf trouser, and that's clearly intentional. The contrast panel running along the inner thigh and leg creates a distinctive two-tone visual that immediately reads as fashion-forward. The embroidered Malbon Range Tested logo down the right leg is prominent — this pant wants to be noticed, which is a fundamentally different design philosophy from the restrained branding on the FootJoy Tour Fit or Greyson Montauk.

The four colorways are well-curated: Aged Black, Coffee, Navy, and Olive all have a muted, earthy quality that fits the fall/winter collection positioning. The nylon fabric has a lightweight, shell-like appearance — closer to a technical track pant than a traditional trouser. The woven flag label on the rear waistband is a nice touch.

The overall aesthetic is undeniably cool if streetwear-influenced golf fashion is your lane. If you're playing at a course with a traditional dress code, however, these may draw a second look from the pro shop — the jogger-style elastic hems and drawcord waistband don't read as "golf trousers" in the conventional sense.

Comfort & Fit

The elastic waistband with drawcord and plastic cord lock stopper provides a fully customizable fit around the waist — no guessing about between-size situations. Belt loops are included if you want to dress them up with a belt, which is a smart hybrid design choice. The polyester mesh pocket lining adds breathability where pockets meet the body.

The fit is relaxed and streetwear-influenced: longer cuts, wider silhouette, deliberate drop through the leg. On tall, slim frames, this creates the intended fashion-forward look. On shorter or stockier builds, the same proportions can feel baggy and unflattering. Alpha sizing (S/M/L/XL) rather than traditional waist/inseam measurements makes precision fit difficult — if you're a 33 waist with a 32 inseam, you're choosing between a Medium and Large with no guarantee either matches your proportions.

The adjustable elastic cord at the leg hem partially compensates for the inseam limitation. You can cinch the hem for a tapered jogger look or leave it loose for a wider leg opening. It's a clever detail that adds versatility, but it doesn't replace the precision of actual inseam options.

The nylon poly woven fabric is lightweight and functional, but it doesn't have the premium hand feel of Italian polyamide blends (like the Greyson Montauk) or even the structured drape of a polyester-spandex performance trouser (like the FootJoy Tour Fit). The fabric feels like what it is: a nylon shell. That's perfectly fine for a technical windbreaker or track pant — but at $145, golfers accustomed to the fabric quality of dedicated performance trousers may find it underwhelming.

Performance

Stretch & Mobility

Without a listed stretch percentage or elastane content, it's difficult to make specific claims about the fabric's range of motion. The nylon poly woven construction will provide some inherent give, and the relaxed fit means there's plenty of room for the golf swing without binding. But the Lodge lacks the engineered 4-way or 8-way stretch that performance golf pants at this price explicitly deliver. For context, Malbon's own Performance Nylon Tech Pant ($120-128) features 76% nylon / 24% spandex with explicit performance claims — it's more purpose-built for golf at a lower price point.

Weather Protection

Nylon poly woven fabric is inherently wind-resistant and quick-drying, which makes the Lodge a reasonable choice for cooler, breezy fall/winter conditions — consistent with its "Range Tested" FW23 collection positioning. It won't replace a dedicated rain pant in sustained downpours, but it'll shed light moisture and block wind more effectively than cotton or lightweight polyester alternatives.

Pockets & Functionality

The pocket design is the Lodge's strongest functional feature. Side pockets with hidden zippers and welt back pockets with hidden zipper closures mean nothing falls out during the round — phone, tees, ball marker, wallet, all secure. In a category where back pockets are often afterthoughts (the FootJoy Tour Fit's back pockets were flagged as less secure), the Lodge's all-zippered approach is genuinely well-executed.

Off-Course Versatility

This is where the Lodge makes its strongest case. These look like premium streetwear pants, not golf trousers — which means they work in casual urban environments, weekend errands, travel, and social settings where traditional golf pants would look out of place. The Aged Black and Navy colorways in particular pair naturally with sneakers, boots, and casual outerwear.

The trade-off is that the reverse isn't as seamless. The jogger-style hems, drawcord waistband, and nylon shell don't dress up the way the Greyson Montauk or even the FootJoy Tour Fit can. You won't pair these with a blazer for dinner. The Lodge's versatility moves laterally — from course to street — rather than vertically — from course to office.

Verdict

The Malbon Golf Lodge Nylon Pant is a well-made lifestyle piece with genuine streetwear appeal and functional pocket design. The nylon shell handles wind and light moisture. The adjustable waistband and hem cords offer fit customization that alpha-sized garments normally lack. The aesthetic is distinctive and fashion-forward.

The concerns are equally clear. At $145, you're paying performance-pant prices for a pant without listed stretch specs, moisture-wicking, UV protection, or antimicrobial properties. Alpha sizing limits fit precision. The relaxed silhouette favors tall, slim builds. The nylon hand feel doesn't match the fabric quality of dedicated golf trousers at or below this price. And Malbon's own Performance Nylon Tech Pant offers more explicit golf functionality at $120-128 — making the Lodge a lifestyle premium over an in-house alternative that's arguably better suited for the course.

The Lodge is the right pant for golfers who see the course as an extension of their personal style — who care as much about how they look walking from the parking lot to the first tee as they do about on-course performance specs. It's not the right pant for golfers who prioritize technical features per dollar. Both are valid approaches to getting dressed for golf. Just know which one you are.
